The University of Miami Center for Hemispheric Policy launched its new Latin American cities initiatives program at a conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil on June 23, 2008. Co-sponsored by Fecomercio, Brazil’s premier business and services organization, “Forum Brazil – United States” presented several panel discussions on current issues of significance to both countries and the region, including commerce, the economy, energy, agriculture, the environment, and the U.S. presidential election. President Donna E. Shalala opened the conference, which included U.S. ambassador to Brazil Clifford Sobel and Josue Gomes, president of COTEMINAS and of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum.
