Engineering Week 2008

College of Engineering Dean James M. Tien examines some of the engineering ingenuity of a group of high school students. About 20 teams of students from 14 Miami-Dade County high schools took part on Wednesday in the daylong Build It competition at the University of Miami. Each team’s task: Using common household materials, such as plastic straws, paper plates, rubber bands and cardboard, build a bridge strong enough to support as many pennies as possible. Held in the University Center ballrooms, the event was part of Engineers Week, which featured several activities highlighting the profession. Events were sponsored by the Engineering Advisory Board.
